Feeding and Labeling Policy
General Feeding Information
*Teachers feed infants according to each child’s schedule. If the child is showing early signs of hunger the teachers will respond to the child’s needs.
Storage of Food and Bottles
*Each child gets their own area for food storage; one in the refrigerator and one in the cabinet above the kitchen sink.
Preparing and Feeding an Infant a Bottle
*Bottles must be brought in already prepared with child’s first and last name.
*If there are any bottles left at the end of the day (after all children go home), the bottles must be emptied.
*Any bottle of breast milk will have a colored rubber band placed on it. This is just another way to distinguish the bottles from each other.
*Breast milk can be kept in the freezer (in case of an emergency) for up to 1 month, then it must be discarded.
Storing Solid Foods
*Just like the bottles, the jar/cereal foods must have the child’s first and last name on it. Any unopened jars of food can be placed in the child’s area in the kitchen. Be sure to let the teacher know that there is jar food in their area.
*If the jar food is open and is brought in the morning, it must be put in the refrigerator. Teachers cannot feed a child solid food that is opened for more than 24 hours.
