The holidays are right around the corner!  We have an exciting and busy week coming up.  Review is the name of the game this week.  We have finished up Unit 2 with our curriculum, we will be doing lots of review this week.  We have phonics games and activities, reviewing all of the letters and letter sounds we have covered thus far.  We will also be reviewing syllables, initial, final, and medial sounds, blending, segmenting and rhyming.  We will continue to work on spelling words, on our own, in our Holiday Stories and our Journal entries.  Also, we will be reviewing all of our amazing words and vocabulary words.  We will review our comprehension skills such as plot, characters, setting, main idea, retelling, sequence and reading for a purpose in our reading groups as well.

We have also finished up Chapter 2 in our Math curriculum and will be doing lots of review dealing with the concept of numbers 0-9, recognize and correctly write 0-9, pair up names of the numbers with the actual numbers and pair up sets of objects.  We will also understand the relationship between looking at a number and actually moving that amount of times.  In addition to this we will continue to do some graphing, addition, patterning, symmetry and money.

With all of that review, we still need to find some time for holiday fun!    In Social Studies, we will be finishing up exploring Holidays Around the World.  On Monday, we will be looking more closely at Hanukkah in Israel.  Somethings we will be learning about are the menorah and the dreidel.  Thank you to Adam’s Family for lending their favorite Hanukkah story with us.  On Tuesday, we will discuss some Christmas traditions in the states.  Thanks to Kailey’s family for sharing some of their favorite holiday traditions as well as a video about “How Stuffed Animals are Made” and the stuffed animals.  We will also be making our Holiday Cards and ornaments on Tuesday.  Wednesday we will be ‘Welcoming Winter!’  In Science, we will be looking at the different states of water and making our Magic Snow.  Then, we will make our 3-D Window Winter Wonderland Snowman!  Mr. Rohe will also be in to sing with us and tell us stories.  Thursday, December 22nd,  we will be having our Holiday Party and enjoying a holiday movie!  Friday, is going to be a fun relaxing day.  We will share our Holiday Stories with our friends, play some fun review games and listen to some holiday music.

Homework for the week:  select and read a library book, letter and number writing practice in green handwriting notebook.  The homework is due on Friday, December 23rd.  Please remember to review all sight words daily.

Please be sure to check the “Kindergarten Times” daily for updates, sign-up sheets, and important classroom information.  Also, please be sure to bring the yellow ‘Take Home Folders’, found in the green cubbies, home and back to school everyday.

Miss Trish

I hope everyone has a safe and very Happy Holidays and New Year!
