This week, Dance class begins on Friday.  Don’t forget to sign up if you are interested.  Along with dance, we also offer some other fantastic extracurricular activities such as: CompUChild on Monday, Yoga and Mad Science on Wednesday, Kartwheel Kidz on Thursday, and Dance and Spanish on Friday!  See “The Kindergarten Times” (located on the wall to the right as soon as you walk in the Kindergarten classroom) for further information.

On Monday we will be celebrating Johnny Appleseed’s Birthday!  We will be listening to a brief history on Johnny, watching a short film, making our very own “pots” to wear on our heads and enjoying delicious apple snacks.

During this week, we will be learning four new sight words: and, the, made, and little.  Please remember to review these words everyday with your child.  We will also be becoming familiar with our new amazing words: platypus, around, lost, found, market, and groceries.  We will hear these words throughout the week in the different stories we hear and read.  We will be reading several decodable books entitled, The Little Toys, Cat and Dog Play, Pete, Little Me!, and Plaidypus Lost.  Some of the stories will be read with the whole class and others will be reading in small groups.  We will review character and setting of a story and focus on sequences.

In addition, we are up to Chapter 3 in the book Flat Stanley. To recap what has happened thus far, we will be creating a sequence picture chart on the smartboard.  We will also continue to add on to our character and setting lists as we move along.

We will also continue to work with rhyming words and review letters A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, M and N.  Our new letters for this week are O, P, Q, R and S.  We will learn the sounds each of these letters make and learn how to write each letter correctly in our handwriting notebook.  We will continue to write in our journals daily!

Additionally, we will carry on learning about syllables and blending words and begin to explore initial sounds.  We will also be extending our talk about cooperation from our classroom to home and share different ways we cooperate at home.

In Math, we will be concentrating on writing the numbers 0-5 and matching.  We will also be reviewing colors and shapes and learning what each corresponding word looks like.

In our learning centers this week we will continue to explore and discover all of the important concepts we have been learning about thus far.  In our Art Center, we will be creating a beautiful fall scene.  In Math, we will be finding matching practicing sequences with our sequence cards.  In the Writing Center, we will be practicing writing our new sight words, letters O, P, Q, R, and S, and numbers 1 and 2.  In our Computer Center, we will be playing Lowercase Letter Bingo to help us recognize our lowercase letters. In Reading, we will be choosing one of our decodable readers to read and then draw a picture that shows where the story takes place.  In the Word Center, we will be matching pictures to their corresponding initial letter sound.  In Science, we will be examining photos of platypuses and creating our very own.  Finally, in our Listening Center we will be naming picture cards, finding two that rhyme, and drawing a picture of another word that rhymes.
